Irrigation Manager
Irrigation managers oversee all aspects of irrigation systems at a sports field, park, golf course or other recreation facility or institution. Based on the landscape’s planned use, condition and historical experience, irrigation managers develop maintenance and watering schedules, identify needed repairs and recommend system upgrades. They provide on-site supervision for larger repairs and installing new irrigation systems. Depending on the size and type of facility, irrigation managers may also be involved in daily maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement irrigation schedules based on facility purpose and landscape requirements.
- Monitor irrigation system performance, track water use, identify needed repairs and recommend enhancements to reduce water waste and cost.
- Work with facility manager/superintendent to develop and manage budget for planned and emergency repairs and irrigation system upgrades.
- Manage inventory of repair equipment, replacement irrigation components and other supplies.
- Oversee team of technicians, groundskeepers and outside contractors to perform irrigation system maintenance, repairs and upgrades, including tracking crew timesheets and supervising major repairs and facility improvements.
Education & Experience
- Two-year associate degree required; four-year bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five years irrigation experience required; two years crew management experience preferred.
- Experience with the facility’s legacy irrigation system preferred.
- Experience operating hand tools, heavy equipment (backhoe, trenchers and front-end loader) and vehicles for grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Recommended certification(s): Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT), Certified Irrigation Landscape Auditor (CLIA), Certified Landscape Water Manager (CLWM), Certified Grounds Technician (CGT), manufacturer certification, state landscape certification or irrigation license, pest control certification, equipment operator license.
