Irrigation Technician

Irrigation technicians install, maintain and service irrigation systems. Technicians perform regular system maintenance, including spring startup, controller programming and winterization. Technicians also install new irrigation systems and retrofit older systems to improve water efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular system maintenance, including starting up systems for use in warmer months; inspecting and repairing sprinkler heads, pipes and other components; programming recommended watering schedules; and winterizing systems to prevent damage during freezing weather.
  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation components and systems, including sprinkler heads, pipes, pumps and controllers.
  • Retrofit older systems with newer technology and install new systems to improve water efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Three years irrigation experience required.
  • Experience with the facility’s legacy irrigation system preferred.
  • Experience operating hand tools, heavy equipment (backhoe, trenchers and front-end loader) and vehicles for grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.
  • Recommended certification(s): Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT), Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT), manufacturer certification, state landscape certification or irrigation license.

Compensation

  • $28,000 – $46,000*
