Smart Water Application Technologies Initiative

Smart Water Application Technologies is a partnership of water providers and irrigation companies, working to promote landscape water-use efficiency through innovative technology. 

Advanced, “smart” irrigation controllers use climate and soil moisture sensors to adjust watering to deliver the right amount of water at the right time to keep plants healthy without waste. 

Managed by the Irrigation Association, SWAT works to:

• Develop testing protocols for smart controller performance, longevity and reliability.
• Educate landscape and irrigation professionals about products and practices that deliver measurable improvements in outdoor water-use efficiency.
• Implement community incentive programs to encourage homeowners and other water end users to adopt smart technologies.
