Irrigation industry heads to Capitol Hill
IA hosts annual Washington, D.C., fly-in
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA (March 14, 2019) — Irrigation leaders from across the United States convened in Washington, D.C., on March 5-6 for the annual Washington, D.C., fly-in and Water Resources Congressional Summit. Calling for congressional action on trade, labor, water infrastructure and farm bill implementation, Irrigation Association volunteers met with more than 35 congressional offices and officials from the White House during the two-day fly-in.
“Moving the needle is tough in this political environment,” said IA Government and Public Affairs Director John Farner. “However, I’m very optimistic and excited about the headway made following these important constituent meetings.”
In addition to the congressional and White House meetings, the IA also joined with the National Ground Water Association and the Water Quality Association for the 2019 Water Resources Congressional Summit. During the Summit, attendees heard from U.S. Geological Survey Associate Director for Water Resources Dr. Don Cline, Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan and a congressional staff panel regarding the future of water policy in Congress.
“The IA is fortunate to continue our strong partnership with the NGWA and WQA during this year’s Water Resources Congressional Summit,” continued Farner. “The IA joins our friends with NGWA and WQA in calling on Congress to act on issues that support and advance our industries.”
